Paradise House St Andrews Beach Victoria is a copper clad beach house located adjacent to the pristine Mornington Peninsula reserve. The design of this home focuses on the building’s longevity and environmental integration by careful material selection and a sculptural formal response to the physical and environmental site conditions. It is designed with extremely low maintenance materials, (Copper cladding, unpainted Galvanised steel, unpainted class A timbers) so that it can last more than 50 years without any major maintenance. It is clad in copper which naturally oxidizes to change form a burnt brown colour to a rusted green colour. The natural patina of the cladding will blend into the surrounding tea trees over time. Paradise House is the accumulation of multiple ESD design principles. Of particular note is the formal response to site which considers sun orientation, wind breaks and vegetation retention.
The house was featured on the Sandcastles TV show.
