Quoting from the National Heritage Database The Cups Country is the eastern section of the Nepean Peninsula Dune system and is of scientific interest because of its unusual topography. In terms of its geomorphological evolution, the area is unique in Victoria: usually the Pleistocene dunes are found in long parallel ridges but in this case the ridge system has been blown around, humps and hollows have been formed, then the cores have solidified, resulting in the present topography. The Cups is also a feature of great landscape interest. In some places the scenic values of the area have been enhanced by the clearing of the coastal tea tree scrub so that the topography is more obvious in the grazed farming environment.

The Cups Country is 2,500ha, 5km south-south-west of Rosebud. Area bounded by Boneo (Rosebud Flinders) Road, Cape Schanck Road, Fingal Road and its alignment, the shoreline along Gunnamatta Beach, Trumans Road and Browns Road. Houses along the Flinders to Rosebud road are excluded.
